This project aims to provide policy and planning inputs for the Ministry of Agriculture according to specific needs based on requests by the Ministry of Agriculture. The project will capitalize on the long term expertise of Helvetas in the Natural Resources Management sector of Bhutan and respond to a perceived need for a wide range of expertise and information required to address specific needs at the policy and planning level.
Main Achievements:
In 2008 Helvetas supported two inputs:
· Review of food security activities and plans and development of an action plan for food security (led by Dr. T. Braunschweig).
· Review of human resource development needs in the forestry and environmental sectors and the roles of the UWEFI vis-a-vis CNR and Sherubtse College (led by Professor Menzi)
Outlook:
Priorities will be based on the priorities of the Ministry of Agriculture. The inputs will partly consist of follow up activities from inputs in 2008 (such as Food Policy consultancy).
Activities in 2009 may include:
· Facilitating access to information and expertise
· Supporting short term inputs by specialists (e.g. Food policy)
· Inputs by CoOF
