Support to Local Governance (workshop on CSOs and cooperatives 17-18/02/2009)
As part of the SLG project, a workshop on better understanding the concepts of civil society and cooperatives, and the existing legal framework affecting civil society organizations and cooperatives was organized.
The workshop topics focused on three main categories: basic concepts clarification and understanding the Civil Society Organizations Act and the Cooperatives Act of Bhutan; sharing experiences within projects (governance experience in forestry management; local capacity building as an important element of decentralization; experiences as an NGO; and experiences in working in groups); and discussions on practical application of the concepts and Acts within the Support for Local Governance project (a project between the Local Development Division of the GNH Commission and Helvetas-Bhutan).
The workshop participants included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Judiciary; Tarayana Foundation; Rural Livelihood Project; Rural Development Training Center (facilitator) and Helvetas-Bhutan.
