Workshop on Market Chain Approach in Zhemgang, Bhutan (from 24-25.09.09)

On 24. and 25. September 2009 the Rural Livelihood Project (RLP) with support by the Rural Development Training (RDT) organized an introduction-workshop to concepts related to market chain facilitation.

 

Participation in the "Community Forestry International Workshop“ in Pokhara, Nepal (from 05-18.09.09)

A group comprising the Project Manager of the Participatory Forest Management Project (PFMP), the PFMP Advisors and two representatives of the Dzonkhag Forestry Sector attended the International Community Forestry Workshop held in Pokhara in Nepal in September. The presented a paper and two posters on community forestry (CF) and on the PFMP (available for download).

 

Visit by SDC Delegation (from 02-12.09.09)

Dr. Edita Vokral, Head of Regional Cooperation, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Federal Government of Switzerland and Ms. Lisa Magnollay, Desk Officer Bhutan, SDC Bern visited Bhutan from 2nd – 12th September 2009

 

Rural Livelihood Project (fishery enterprise development workshop 05-11.08.2009)

The Rural Livelihood Project organized a workshop on fishery enterprise development for extentionists from different districts. The participants shared experiences and challenges in executing fishery programs. The workshop included training aspects on good aquaculture practices. 

 

Swiss National Day (gathering of friends 01.08.09)

Since 1891, 1st August is celebrated as the Swiss National Day. In Bhutan, a gathering of friends over dinner, bonfire, and a CD broadcast of a speech by the President of the Swiss Confederation was organized.

 

Impact Assessment (assessment of education projects Feb-May 09)

An impact assessment was carried out to capture and analyze the impact of the education projects supported by SDC and Helvetas in Bhutan covering a period of about 20 years.

 

Support to Local Governance(workshop on CSOs and cooperatives 17-18.02.09)

As part of the SLG project, a workshop on better understanding the concepts of civil society and cooperatives, and the existing legal framework affecting civil society organizations and cooperatives was organized.

 

Support to Local Governance (training GAOs 24.12.08 to 09.01.09)

GNHC Conducts Induction Course for the 2nd Batch of 99 Gewog Administrative Officers(36 females) from 17 districts.

 

Suspension Bridge Programme (Design Training 20-26.12.2008)

A short training on design of small to medium span road bridges using SAP 2000 was held in Thimphu for 8 road bridge engineers and suspension bridge engineers.

 

Suspension Bridge Programme (Study Tour 22-31.12.2008)

As part of capacity development within Phase VI, 50 engineers, masons and carpenters from all 20 dzongkhags were sent on a short study tour to Nepal

 

CoE - Expansion for collages of Education Paro/Samtse (Inauguration 17.12.08)
Two new buildings were inaugurated at the Paro College of Education – the Centenary Gymnasium and the Centenary Lecture Theatre, project financed by SDC.

 

Bhutan-Swiss Archaeological Project (Prime Minister's visit 12.12.08)

Honorable Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley visited the Archaeological excavation site - ruins of the Drapham Dzong.

 

Bridge Exhibition - (20-26.11.2008)

The Bhutan-Swiss partnership celebrate to exhibits the pictures from a project in which engineering expertise from Bhutan was used to build a trail bridge in Switzerland.

 

Helvetas Board of Directors (visits Bhutan 7-18.10.2008)

Board of Directors from Helvetas- Zurich, Switzerland visited Bhutan.

 

The Menchu Zam

With a span of 92 meters under Trashiyangtse Dzongkhag was finally completed and inaugurated.   The beneficiaries of Menchu Zam takes the privilege to thank the communities of Sprietenbach and the Royal Government for financially supporting the construction of this pedestrian bridge.

 

RNR-Research Centre Yusipang (Inauguration 09.10.08)

Handing over of the two buildings (Administration and Research) by Mr. Sherub Gyaltshen Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and Mr. E. Werner Kuelling, Resident Coordinator Helvetas-Bhutan.

 

International Workshop - (3-7.09.2008)

The Helvetas Coordination Office, Bhutan organised an International Workshop on Forest, Landscapes, Livelihood and Governance in Punakha.

 

Rural Development Training Centre In Zhemgang (Inauguration 08.05.08)

The Centre inaugurated jointly by Mrs. Ruth Dreifuss (former President of Switzerland) and Mr. Sherub   Gyaltshen, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture.
